Join Us In Solidarity

Join Us In Solidarity - Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association
March 29, 2021

To the YSM Community:

The murders last week in Atlanta of members of the Asian community are deeply disturbing to all of us. Sadly, these crimes are only the most recent chapter in the historic racism faced by Asian communities that has intensified during the current pandemic.

I invite every member of the YSM community to come together in solidarity and support of our Asian colleagues and friends on Monday, March 29 at noon in front of Sterling Hall of Medicine. Please join me, Dean Brown, and leaders from our Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association (APAMSA) and our South Asian Medically-oriented Student Association (SAMoSA) as we stand together against the hate and xenophobia that many Asian communities are facing. Now more than ever, we must support one another and unite in the face of events, both recent and past, that continue to take their toll.

Faculty from the Department of Psychiatry are also available to facilitate a Stress and Resilience Town Hall for departments, sections, or smaller groups of individuals who would like an opportunity to share their experiences in a supportive environment. Please contact Susan Florio at susan.florio@yale.edu for more information.

Sincerely,

Darin Latimore, MD
Deputy Dean of Diversity and Inclusion
